Pretty Nostalgic: Bandung Coffee

Pretty Nostalgic: Bandung Coffee

A fresh take on a nostalgic drink, this Bandung Coffee combines the rosy and sweet traditional bandung drink with a bold and nutty espresso, blending sweet floral notes with a robust kick of coffee.

First off, shoutout to the good folks over at Rookie's Coffee Shop for developing this concoction and sharing this delicious pairing with us. You see, their famous "pink drink" isn't just good to look at — it's also a deliciously sweet blast to the past. In fact, we recreated it for this year's National Day, simply because it recalls fond childhood memories, while bandung is a familiar drink that every Singaporean can relate to.

Bonus: it's also really easy to make at home! The recipe consists of just three ingredients — rose syrup, which gives the drink its pretty pink colour; milk; and coffee brewed from the capsule on our trusty MORNING Machine.

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 shots of espresso
  • 100g Milk
  • 20g rose syrup
  • 5 ice cubes

Steps:

1. Start by placing the ice in a glass cup, then pour the rose syrup on top of it before adding half the amount of milk.

2. Stir well to mix them until you get a soft pink colour. Then, slowly pour the rest of the milk on top, taking care not to mix the layers as much as possible.

3. Separately, pull your espresso shot, or brew a coffee capsule on the MORNING Machine with the 'Morning Classic' recipe, into a separate cup.

4. Once that's done, pour the freshly-brewed coffee into the glass cup with the rose syrup and milk, and you should get a beautiful colour gradient, perfect for the 'gram.

5. Remember to stir well before drinking to get that wonderful hit of nostalgia!
