Getting to know Daniel Agapiou – Founder and Owner of Barrel One Coffee Roasters.
What's the story behind Barrel One and how did it all start?
Barrel One began in 2012 after a trip to Tanna Island in Vanuatu to source coffee for a café I was working with at the time. This experience sparked my desire to support the coffee community of Tanna, leading to the creation of Barrel One. We started by wholesaling to friends' cafés and eventually opened our own café in 2018. Since then, Barrel One has thrived, thanks to the unwavering support of our community.
What motivated Barrel One to explore the capsule coffee format?
The release of the MORNING Machine marked a significant shift in capsule coffee brewing, enabling temperature control and yield adjustments. This innovation was the primary catalyst for Barrel One's decision to offer capsules, as it allowed us to refine the brewing process and achieve the perfect brew from our coffee.
We all have our morning routines, and coffee is often a crucial part of it. What is your morning ritual like?
We have a 3-year-old son, so waking up before the family to enjoy some solitude is a wonderful way to start the day. I usually wake up around 4:30-5:00 AM, go for a run, and then return home for a coffee. It's a fantastic way to begin the day.
What are you most excited about right now and for the future of Barrel One as a brand/business?
In addition to our partnership with MORNING, we are thrilled to be building a brand that provides the greater Sydney community with exceptional coffee every day. This is what drives our passion and purpose.
